Why is my ZIP barely smaller than the files I put in?

Because those files are already compressed. JPEG, PNG, MP4, MP3 and PDF all have compression built in, and ZIP cannot find much left to squeeze. Zipping them is still useful — it puts many files into one — but expect a few percent, not half. Text, CSV and source code compress dramatically.

Is there a size limit?

The tool works within your tab's memory, so it caps the total at 500MB. Individual files can be as large as you like within that. For bigger jobs, split them into batches or use a desktop tool where the archive is written to disk as it goes.

Can I password protect the ZIP?

Not here. ZIP's built-in encryption in its widely supported form is weak and shouldn't be relied on for anything sensitive — a modern archiver with AES, or an encrypted PDF, is a better answer for that.
