About convert from pdf

Getting content out of a PDF is harder than putting it in, and it helps to know why. A PDF does not store a document's structure — it stores where each piece of text sits on the page. Converting back to Word means guessing which lines form a paragraph, which text is a heading, and which of those boxes was a table. The result is usually good and rarely perfect.

That guessing is why conversions to Word and Excel need checking. Multi-column layouts, tables without ruled lines and text inside images are the three things most likely to come out wrong, and a table that looks right but has a shifted column is worse than one that obviously failed.

PDF to JPG sidesteps the problem entirely by rendering each page as a picture. Nothing can go wrong with the layout because nothing is being interpreted — which also means the result is not editable or searchable.

Convert from PDF — frequently asked questions

Because a PDF records positions, not structure. The converter has to infer paragraphs, headings and tables from where things sit. Simple, single-column documents convert cleanly; magazine-style layouts and complex tables need tidying afterwards.
