About inspect & clean
Photographs carry more than the picture. EXIF metadata records the camera and lens, the exact date and time, the settings used and — on almost every phone — the GPS coordinates where the shutter was pressed. Publishing a photo without stripping that can publish your home address along with it.
The metadata viewer here shows you exactly what an image is carrying, and the EXIF remover strips it. Do this before posting pictures of anything at a private address: a marketplace listing, a rental advert, a lost pet notice. Some social platforms strip metadata on upload and some do not, and relying on which is which is not worth the risk.
The colour picker serves a different purpose — pulling the exact hex value of a colour out of an image, which is how you match a brand colour from a logo you were sent as a picture rather than a specification.
Inspect & Clean — frequently asked questions
No. The pixels are untouched; only the descriptive data attached to the file is removed. The one thing to check afterwards is orientation, since rotation is sometimes stored as metadata rather than applied to the pixels.
